Dr. Hassenstab’s research focuses on using technological approaches to characterize cognitive changes in normal aging and neurodegenerative diseases. His laboratory, the Cognitive Technology Research Laboratory (CTRLab) develops smartphone and web-based assessments for use in clinical studies with a particular focus on Alzheimer’s disease (AD), including genetic forms like dominantly inherited AD and Down syndrome associated AD. He is the principal investigator of an international study of Down syndrome associated AD called the Ambulatory Research in Cognition-Down syndrome (ARC-DS) study, which has sites in the US, Europe, South America, and recently in Africa. He has been the Cognition Core Leader for the Dominantly Inherited Alzheimer Network (DIAN) Observational Study and the DIAN-Trials Unit (DIAN-TU) since 2015.
